Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 July 2026
This policy explains how Vertial Holdings Pty Ltd (ABN 72 629 494 926), trading as DebtFreedom, handles your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). We've tried to write it plainly.
The short version
The debts you type into the tool stay on your device — they're never sent to us. When you sign up we collect your email and a summary (total owed and number of debts). We only share your details with a debt management provider if you explicitly ask us to. We never sell your personal information.
Who we are
DebtFreedom is operated by Vertial Holdings Pty Ltd (ABN 72 629 494 926, ACN 629 494 926), Level 32, 101 Miller Street, North Sydney NSW 2060. We are the entity responsible for your personal information under this policy. Privacy questions or requests: hello@debtfreedom.com.au.
What we collect, and why
Debts you enter. Stored only in your browser, on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers, and we cannot see them. You can delete them in the app at any time.
When you sign up: your email address; your agreement to this policy and our Terms; whether you opted in to tips emails; the date and time you agreed; whether you chose bank connect or manual entry; your total owed and number of debts (never the individual debts); and a campaign tag identifying how you reached us. We use this to show your debt-free date, email you a copy if you ask, respond to you, keep a record of your consent, and understand which of our communications are useful.
If you request a referral: your name, email, phone and a short debt summary — collected only with a separate, unticked, explicit consent, and disclosed only to the debt management provider we refer you to so they can contact you about debt management. We keep a record of that consent.
Usage analytics. Which screens and buttons are used, and basic device/browser information, so we can improve the product. Analytics events never include your debt amounts or the debts you entered.
We collect information directly from you. We do not collect sensitive information (such as health information), and we do not collect government identifiers. We do not currently collect or handle credit reporting information; if that changes, we will update this policy and publish a separate Credit Reporting Policy first.
Cookies and analytics
We use a first-party analytics tool to count visits and understand how the tool is used. It sets cookies/local storage in your browser. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not sell analytics data. You can block cookies in your browser settings; the tool will still work.
Where your information is stored, and overseas disclosure
Signup and referral records are stored in Australia (Sydney). To run the service we use a small number of trusted providers, some of which process limited information (such as your email address and usage events) on servers outside Australia, including the United States — currently our email delivery provider (Resend) and our analytics provider (PostHog). This is an overseas disclosure under APP 8. We take reasonable steps to ensure these providers handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Direct marketing and opting out
We only send tips and updates if you opted in. Every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe link, which we action within 5 business days, consistent with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Unsubscribing never affects your ability to use the tool.
How long we keep it
We keep signup and referral records only as long as needed for the purposes above and to meet our legal record-keeping obligations, then delete or de-identify them (APP 11.2). You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see below). Debts you entered live only on your device and are removed when you clear them or clear your browser storage.
Bank connect (not yet live)
A future “connect your bank” option will use Australia's Consumer Data Right under its own separate, explicit consent. It is not active today, and nothing is connected to any bank. We will update this policy before it launches.
Keeping your information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including encryption in transit, access controls, and data minimisation (we deliberately collect as little as possible — for example, we never receive your individual debts).
Data breaches
If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will respond in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme (Part IIIC of the Privacy Act), including notifying affected individuals and the OAIC as required.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it (APP 12 and APP 13). Email hello@debtfreedom.com.au and we will respond within a reasonable period, ordinarily within 30 days. There is no charge to make a request. Information held on your device you can access and delete yourself in the app at any time.
Children
DebtFreedom is intended for adults (18 and over) and is not directed at children.
Privacy complaints
If you think we've mishandled your personal information, please contact us first at hello@debtfreedom.com.au — see our Feedback & Complaints page for how we handle complaints and our response times. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au, 1300 363 992), free of charge.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above will change, and for material changes we'll take reasonable steps to let signed-up users know.
